The Important Terms/Descriptions I forget constantly and Need to knowledge

Now this is a non-comprehensive list of descriptions of terms that I should know but have often taken me time to understand. This list will evolve, I also put reference to them in my descriptions. Unfortunately for some a lot of these are basic statistics terms, this is my area of strong development, I am not a master and far away, and some of the descriptions I find are confusing and terms are often mixed up or are very close to one another. Now I provide reference to other sources which I found useful to learn from. Some of the descriptions are quite in depth, as I believe it is important to have a solid understanding, now some of them I also provide historical context for. My problem often is that the resources go straight to the Math, but well atleast most introductory statistics was developed for a really tangible reason a practical reason, and I seldom find the articles saying why on earth did someone make up a rule a theory, a distribution. Often it was for gambling, looking at the stars, estimating population requirements in an age before the computer. It is such a practical profession but often so unclear when mixed to the lamen like myself.
